Accreditation

Accreditation and training

We are the official UK arm of the Chinese Folk Dance Association (CFA). We teach the CFA graded syllabus, which is recognised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, and we train teachers as well as students under it.

We also enter students for Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) ballet examinations.

Our teachers hold degrees and teaching qualifications from institutions including Beijing Dance Academy, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Northeast Normal University and the University of Roehampton.

CIC

A Community Interest Company

UK China Performing Arts School CIC is a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee. It has no shareholders and pays no dividends.

The company's assets and any surplus are subject to an asset lock. This is a legal restriction: they cannot be paid out to individuals, and must be used for the company's community purpose. Any surplus is reinvested into our teaching and our work with the local community.

Our objects, as filed at Companies House, are to carry on activities which benefit the community — in particular to provide education and training in dance, performing arts and related cultural disciplines for children, young people and adults through classes, workshops, vocational and examination preparation, performances and community outreach.

We file a community interest report each year. It is published on the Companies House register alongside our accounts.

Beyond the studio

Learning here is not limited to the classroom. Students take part in school showcases, graded examinations and competitions, and the school takes part in cultural and community events in London.

We are working towards regular partnerships with schools and community organisations to widen access to dance. We will name those partners and publish participation numbers below as that work develops.

Community

Our community work

UK China Performing Arts School CIC exists to provide dance and performing arts education to children, young people and adults in London and the surrounding communities, including participants from Chinese and other cultural backgrounds.

What we do now

  • We teach children from age 3 and adults at every level across seven London locations and online.
  • We teach the CFA graded syllabus in the UK, giving students access to a recognised national syllabus that is otherwise difficult to study here.
  • We run holiday programmes during school breaks.
  • We take part in cultural and community events in London.

What we are working towards

  • Regular workshop partnerships with London primary schools
  • Sessions with community organisations for people who have not danced before
  • Publishing participation numbers for each community session we run

These are our intentions, not established programmes. We will name partners here once there are partners to name.
